Security Enhancements
Multifactor Authentication
A major threat at the moment is through impersonation of valid websites in order to obtain username and password details from the individua on the other side of the device. Once those details are obtained, access to email accounts becomes easy and emails can then be sent as that person requesting typically things like bank detail changes. This is inevitably fraud but we have to put deterrents in place to reduce this happening.
Protecting your username and password data is imperative, and apart from ensuring these are secure and only known to yourself, further enhancements can be made using technology namely, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA involves using a secondary form of authentication and verification to access your PC/Laptop, email account or remote access server. This is usually via a pin code or app installed on the users mobile phone. Things like Microsoft Authenticator is a form of 2FA.
Security Awareness Training
The weakest link in a businesses IT security is unfortunately staff. Sophisticated scams including emails sent to try and obtain bank details, passwords etc, or fraudulent websites are becoming very common. Therefore the best way to stop this from happening is by adequately training your staff to ensure that they can appropriately recognise scams.
